The Possible Medical Reasons Why You Can’t Get Pregnant

by Admin

Why can’t I get pregnant? Some women can get pregnant in their first try, but for others getting pregnant can be very difficult and frustrating. There are so many reasons why some women can’t get pregnant. It can be due to age, stress, and overall physical condition to name a few.

If you have been trying to get pregnant for just 6 months or less, then there is really nothing to worry. Statistics show that only 30% of couples who try to get pregnant in the first 6 months are successful. However, if you have been trying to get pregnant for more than a year to no avail, then it might be time to have you and your partner checked for fertility problems

There are 4 contemporary tests doctors use to determine why a couple can’t get pregnant. These fertility tests are called Hormone and Prolactin Testing, Ovulation, Chlamydia and Gonorrhea Cultures, and Sperm analysis.

Hormone and Prolactin Testing

In hormone testing, your doctor will order a series of blood tests taken at particular days of the month. This will determine if you have a normal hormone production. It will also identify the amount of progesterone in your body in order to determine if you have enough of these hormones to carry on a healthy pregnancy. A Prolactin Test also consists of several blood tests to check your prolactin levels. Research shows that high levels of prolactin, a hormone responsible for producing breast milk, can impede your ability to get pregnant.

Ovulation Test

This test is done to determine if you have a regular menstrual cycle. You can do this at home with the help of an Ovulation Predictor Kit which you can purchase in any local drugstore.

Gonorrhea and Chlamydia Test

Gonorrhea and Chlamydia are STDs that are directly linked to infertility. These viruses are very hard to detect but they can be easily treated with antibiotics. So if you have been trying to conceive with no success, this is one of the first tests your doctor might order for you and your partner.

Sperm Analysis

One of the most common reasons why a couple can’t get pregnant is because the man has a low sperm count. Your doctor will need sperm sample from your partner and with this sample, sperm count and quality can be easily determined.

These fertility tests can help you and your doctor evaluate the reasons why you can’t get pregnant. Once the problem has been identified treatment becomes easier.  So if you have been trying for more than a year but you still can’t get pregnant, you and your partner should have yourselves checked immediately.
